Evaluating the relationship between treatment adherence of TYPE 2 diabetes patients and insulin administration skills

Evaluation of relationship between treatment adherence of type 2 diabetes patients and their insulin administration skills. This study was done to determine the relationship between treatment adherence of type 2 diabetes patients and their insulin administration skills. This study has a descriptive, correlational study design and was done in a Public Hospital in Izmir between the dates of 01.10.2020-01.10.2021 G Power 3.1 package program was used to determine the study sample size and 174 was determined as the sample size with a power of 0.95. The Patient Identification Form, Medication Adherence Scale in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Insulin Injection Skill Observation Form were used as data collection tools in the study. Descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov Smirnov test of normality, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test and Spearman Correlation analysis were used to perform statistical analysis of the study data. Significance level was set at p<0.05. In this study, 55.2% (n=96) of the volunteers were women, 38.5% (n=67) were between the ages of 51-60, 41.4% (n=72) had had diabetes for 11-20 years and all patients were on insulin treatment. The mean score of patients in the Medication Adherence Scale in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes was 77.24±10.84 and in the Insulin Injection Skill Observation Form was 52.22± 6.58. A statistically significant difference was observed in the scores in the Medication Adherence Scale in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes with respect to gender, and duration of insulin treatment of patients. A statistically significant difference was found between the scores of patients in the Insulin Injection Skill Observation Form with respect to age, and duration of diabetes. Based on this study data, it was concluded that patients had a moderate level of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus treatment adherence and a negative significant relationship was found between the scores in the Medication Adherence Scale in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes and the scores in the Insulin Injection Skill Observation Form.
