Abstract (EN)
This study has been carried out in a way of descriptive and analytical-sectional in order to examine the effects of personality traits in the individuals with type 2 diabetes over the levels of the illness acceptance and metabolic targets. The universe of the study was formed by the individuals with Type 2 Diabetes who are registered in Ege University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Endocrinology Diabetes Polyclinic. The sample of the study was formed by 300 individuals with type 2 diabetes who had Type 2 diabetes for at least 6 months, who had no communication problems and who voluntarily accepted to participate in the study. The data of the study were collected by one-to-one interview method. Individual Introduction Form, Metabolic Results List, Five Factor Personality Scale and Acceptance of Illness Scale were used in data collection. In the analysis of the data of the study; number-percentage values, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney-U test were used for the descriptive data and Chi-square test was used in multiple regression analysis. It was determined that the individuals who participated to the study have the average score of extraversion sub-variable 25,93±8,11; the average score of emotional instability sub-variable 27,18±6,78; the average score of agreeableness sub-variable 40,21±4,18; the average score of responsibility sub-variable 31,90±6,41; the average score of openness sub-variable 33,16±7,75. It was determined that emotional instability affects the illness acceptance negatively and responsibility affects it positively. It was found that the average score of "Acceptance of Illness Scale" was 27,72±7,74. It was determined that the individuals have the average score of fasting glycemia 136,50±47,99; the average score of toughness glycemia 185,68±67,99; the average score of HbA1c 7,49±1,83. In our study, different personality traits in individuals with type 2 diabetes have reached different illness acceptance levels. In individuals with type 2 diabetes, for the case of whether or not different personality characteristics lead to different metabolic targets, there is a positive correlation only between emotional instability and systolic blood pressure levels. To be able to say something certain for the other targets, the sample of the study needs to be expanded. Keywords; Type 2 diabetes; personality traits; acceptance of illness; metabolic targets.
