Ayşenil Şamlıoğlu's understanding of stage direction, as a theather stage director

A theatre director is a person, who reads the theater script that is to be staged. He/she contributes to the staging by including his own remarks. The director, basically converts the text into visuals. Stage Manager, makes use of various staging techniques in this process and creates a collective piece of art. In a theater, a director; makes use of the script, actors and actresses, decor, costumes, music and lighting in order to create a natural environment that is suitable to that play. Stage direction techniques include: Imitation, Exhibitionist, Epic and Grotesque. In the imitation technique, everything is conveyed as realistically as possible. Directors request that the actors and actresses act as if it is all real for them. All of the the tools of the theatre are used for this very purpose. The Exhibitionist, Epic and Grotesque techniques, oppose the Imitation technique. This claims that everything that goes on the stage is only a play. In this manner, by using various techniques and tools, the realism is somehow diminished. In the Grotesque Theater and Epic Theatre, the audiance tend to question and learn a lesson from the theater. In this study, the stage direction techniques that Ayşenil Şamlıoğlu who is one of the best directors in Turkish Theatre's use, are examined. She is undoubtedly, one of the best directors of the Turkish Theatre. The techniques that she makes use of in order to create a realistic, yet virtual world, are investigated. This study may serve as a guidebook for future directors as it includes an analysis of these techniques, results and the acting of the actors and the actresses.
