Musical analysis of Ardahan folk songs in the TRT repertoire

Turkish folk songs have been formed by being influenced by various forms of folk poetry, minstrel sayings and melodies for centuries. It plays an intermediary role in expressing the sorrows and joys of the people. Turkish folk songs, which take their meaning from these lands, their feelings from the national self, and their continuity from the traditions of the people, are still developing and maintaining their popularity. Ardahan folk songs in the TRT repertoire have an important place in the field of folk music. It is similar to Azerbaijani and Iranian music in terms of tune. When different melody elements of Turkish folk songs are taken into consideration, its rich musical culture becomes apparent. The tradition and culture of minstrelsy, which has been going on for years in the Ardahan region, also deeply affects the understanding of Turkish Folk Music in the region. In the study, Ardahan's historical process, culture, music, and minstrel tradition of Ardahan are mentioned. The music culture and minstrelsy tradition of the region reflects Ardahan. Considering that it was a province in 1992, the folk songs in Kars province before 1992 were also examined. In line with this examination, 21 Ardahan folk songs were identified. The folk songs whose region known as Kars but which are connected to Ardahan as a district have also been identified and included in the study. In the other part of the analysis, 21 Ardahan folk songs were analyzed according to their method, source person, vocal range, scale and literary features and presented in a table. While examining according to their literary features, the subject, syllable measure, verse unit and verse type were discussed. In the last part, the 21 Ardahan folk songs in the TRT repertoire were analyzed according to their forms and shown in a table.
