Abstract (EN)
Folk culture has a great importance in the construction of Turkish culture. Folk culture, which is the basic building block in the continuation and transfer of culture, also constitutes the main field of study of folklore. Transition periods, which constitute the basis of folk culture, socio-cultural life, clothing and the advancement of technological developments, urban life and the media constitute the main topics of our thesis. Depending on the changing time and space, there are some changes and transformations in Turkish folk culture. While some traditions, customs and beliefs ensure their continuity, others disappear in this change-transformation proces. While many factors play a role in ensuring or destroying cultural continuity, migration from rural to urban areas, technological developments, culture industry and cultural tourism are the main sources of this proces. Ornament and ornamentation, which are the subject of our thesis, are also encountered in many beliefs in Turkish folk culture and in practices carried out accordingly. The ornament phenomenon, which is basically aesthetic and beautiful, also forms the basis of many beliefs and practices. The study named "Ornament and Ornamentatıon in the Turkish Folk Culture" is a study in which religious, historical and mythological backgrounds are examined and evaluated beyond mere clothing or ornaments related to women. The information obtained from written and oral sources was evaluated on this basis, and the social and cultural functions of ornament, ornamentation and understanding of ornamentation in Turkish folk culture were explained together with the elements of change and transformation.
