Abstract (EN)

In this study, the discourse analysis of the news of violence against women, in which the Turkish Police took place as an actor, was made. The media and the police are at an important intersection in preventing violence against women. It has been analyzed how the news texts about violence against women, in which the Turkish Police is an actor, reflect the event and the Turkish Police, and how the text of the news is formed and shaped. In addition, it has been focused on how the statements that legitimize violence against women, which are frequently encountered in news texts, devaluation of the crime by stating the reason for the crime, and how the crime is dramatized and distracted from reality are included in these texts. In this direction, in order to read more the news of violence against women in the media, internet news texts, which tend to dramatize more, were examined. Thus, in the news of violence against women in which the Turkish Police is an actor, the profession is brought to the fore, the label of "criminal policeman" is mentioned in a remarkable way, the sterile and regular police officer life is narrated, and the cause-effect relationship of the crime, which is often seen in the ordinary news of violence against women, is legitimized. focused on factors such as In this direction, due to the fact that the pandemic period has increased in academic studies between individuals and within the family, the date of first appearance of the COVID-19 case in Turkey, 11 March 2020, has been accepted as the beginning. From this date on, the news of violence against women, in which the Turkish Police acted as an actor, which has been published on internet news sites, has formed the scope of the study. In this direction, the news texts included in the sample were made with critical discourse analysis in line with the macro-micro scheme of Teun A. van Dijk, who suggested an effective analysis method in revealing the discourse of the news. The findings obtained as a result of the analysis were interpreted with theoretical information such as the general violence discourses of the media in the literature, the situation of violence against women in our country, and the critical discourse analysis described in the method section.
