The archaeological excavations carried in the early years of Turkish Republic

In this study, Atatürk?s contributions to archeology discipline and the archeologic excavations started in republic?s first years are examined. Turkish Republic is the product of Turkish nation?s success in war of independence. Atatürk believed that outer liberation should be strenghtened with inner victories, in the time phenomenon only the nation who has their ancestors? and history?s consciousness will go on so he believed that his nation?s history and culture should be examined. With this ideas, he supported scholarly studies and he worked with excitement to reveal the past. The instituons that gave archeology education were opened and students were sent to abroad to undergo archeological educations. The opening of Turkish National society was an important work. The excavations being done by TTK in Ahlatlıbel, Karaoğlan and Trakya sat light to our past. In Alacahöyük the culture belonged to 3000 B.C was revealed. Atatürk not only supported Turkish excavator people but also foreigns. Apart from the mounds pointed above in Çankırı Kapı, Gavurkale, Alişar, Boğazköy, Tilkitepe, Yumuktepe, Göllüdağ, Etiyokuşu, Karalar, Demircihöyük, Babaköy, Kusura, Troia, Tell El Cüdeyde, Tell Açana, Tell Tayinat, Arslantepe, Pazarlı, Gözlükule excavations were done and informations were taken. In these excavations a lot of findings were captured. The contemporary civilizations? relations with each other were revealed. It was stated that these relations were not only within Anatolia also other regions. All of these shows that how the period?s politics induced and directed the archeologic studies.
