Abstract (EN)

This study aims to measure the sustainability of domestic breed cattle breeding and determine the factors affecting the sustainability by conducting an economic analysis of the enterprises in Türkiye. Data was obtained from 215 domestic cattle breeders in Diyarbakır, Ağrı, Şanlıurfa, Muş, Samsun provinces and they belong to the production period of May 2021 - April 2022. East Anatolian Red, Black, South Anatolian Red, Southern Yellow, Turkish Gray, and Zavot breeds are grown because it is an activity suitable for the land structure and climatic conditions in the research area. The average presence of domestic breed cattle in the enterprises interviewed was 15.11 ALU. The average share of domestic cattle breeding in GPV was 54.53%, the production cost was calculated as 5 877.85 TRY/ALU, the gross profit was 5 805.67 TRY/ALU and relative profit was 1.60. Economic sustainability index was 0.44, social index was 0.54 and environmental index was 0.49. The overall sustainability index was 0.49 in domestic cattle breeding. Factors affecting the sustainability in farms were income, social network, informatics, pasture availability and trend. It is recommended to focus on the improvement of pasture availability. It is necessary to expand the scope of the support given specifically to domestic cattle breeding and to focus on the regions where it is concentrated. As a policy in the perspective of the protection of animal gene resources, it is necessary to raise awareness covering all units of the relevant institutions and organisations so that a chain effect can be achieved between public/private/producer.
