The examination of healthy lifestyle behaviors on academic staff of university

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to examine healthy lifestyle behaviors of academic staff at the Gaziantep university and determine the relationships between healthy lifestyle behaviors and demographic characteristics. For that purpose, the 376 participants participated in the study voluntarily. As data collection tools, inquiry form, and HLB which was developed by Bahar et al. (2008), were used in the study. The data were tested according to the statistical program and significance level was found 0.05. As a result, the female staff was more succesfull than man staff in sub-dimensions of physical activity and stres management. Also, there was a significant statistically different between smoking staff and non-smokers in sub-dimensions of physical activity, nutrition, spiritual development, and interpersonal relationships. According to departments, education faculty, Turkish Music State Conservatory, faculty of engineering had low scores in sub-dimensions of health responsibility and physical activity, nutrition, spiritual development and interpersonal relationships recpectively. Also, education faculty had high scores more than others in sub-dimension of nutrition. The staff with low tenure was more succesfull than the staff with high tenure in sub-dimensions health responsibility, nutrition, and stres management. The academic staff engaged in regular physical activity had more healthy lifestyle behaviors than others in all sub-dimensions. As academic title increases, levels of health responsibility, spiritual development and nutrition increases and physical activity reduces. As a result, healthy lifestyle behaviors may vary according to gender, smoking, department, academic title, tenure and level of participation in sports.
