Abstract (EN)
The social history and especially woman's place in the society could not find deserved value in Early Modern Ottoman historiography. In this study, Ottoman social structure has been studied to clarify by examining the position of woman in the social life. For this purpose, woman in Konya society in the XVI. and XVII. centuries has been analyzed. In the study, Konya Shari'a Court Records have been used as the main source when examining issue of woman. In this context, woman has been evaluated in the framework of family life, judicial and socio-economic life based on Shari'a Court Records. Information on the family instution has been examined in term of woman. In this context, engagement, marriage, divorce, mihr, alimony and heritage have been also discussed. The status of woman in judicial matters has been identified with the connection of adultery, abuse and rape, murder, minted and wounding, theft, swearing and insult, drink. Finally, the position of woman in social and economic life has been explained with the matter of property sales and claim, relationship with foundations, household and clothing materials as well as the power of represent. Furthermore, here the matter of non-Muslim women and slaves and concubines has been also assessed. Eventually; it has been seen that women in Konya used actively courts and participated as plaintiff, defendant, witness and proxy in these court cases in the XVI. and XVII. centuries.
