Abstract (EN)

According to the free radical theory, factors such as toxic substances, diseases, or aging, in addition to lifespan, development, movement, and food preferences, can affect the weight gain of living organisms. Interest in herbal products-diets or alternative medicine products is increasing every day to prevent negative changes that may occur in metabolism. In this study, the therapeutic effect of coffee (powder and infusion) was determined separately in two experimental designs, where toxicity was induced by carbon tetrachloride in insect fat tissue that corresponds to liver toxicity in humans, and an obesity model was provided with a high-fat diet. Effects were determined by assessing lifespan, development, sex ratio, climbing-dependent movements, enzyme analyses, weight change related to diet, and social behavior. These effects were evaluated in vivo on the model organism Drosophila, which is used as a social behavior, nutrition, and disease model. A total of 90 different diets were studied with 6 different types of coffee (Arabica, Ethiopia, Date-flavored, Colombia, Guatemala, Kenya), and enzyme analyses were performed separately for females and males. The experiments with powdered coffees were excluded since they negatively affected the lifespan of the insects, whereas infusions did not have a negative effect on their lifespan. Generally, coffee positively affected the lifespan of insects in the oily and toxic groups but led to decreased movement. In terms of food preference, coffee beans with the highest sugar content were preferred, and females were found to be more susceptible to changes in enzyme activity related to diet than males. In terms of usage, Arabica>Date-flavored>Kenya =Guatemala>Colombia>Ethiopia coffee beans can be preferred in that order. Therefore, the use of coffee for organisms exposed to toxicity and its effective use in antioxidant nutrition are potential solutions.
