The relationship among urinary incontinence geriatrik depression and loneliness of elderly inviduals

This research is not only a descriptive research but also aimed to define the relationship among urinary incontinence, geriatric depression and loneliness of elderly individuals. This research is done between the dates of 2014, October and 2015, February at GATA geriatrics outpatients in Ankara. 200 elder people who applied for treatment at geriatrics outpatients were the sample of the research. Descriptive data form, ICIQ-SF, GDS-K and UCLA-LS are used during the collection of data. Data is collected via face to face interviews. The data obtained are analyzed by using number, percent, frequency, mean, median, standart deviation, Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U test corrected by Bonferroni and spearman correlation test in SPSS 15 package programme. The significance level is taken as p<0.05. In the research the results showed geriatric depression has a positive correlation with urinary incontinence (r=0.215; p<0.05) and lonelines (r=0.601; p=0,000<0.05). %29.5 of elderly individuals were between 77-82 age group. Social activity status, health perception, existance of chronic diseases and daily activity status were related with urinary incontinence (p<0.05). Geriatric depression was affected by marital status, number of children, people living with the individual, social activity status, health perception, existance of chronic diseases and daily activity status (p<0.05). Also number of children, people living with the individual, social activity status, health perception and daily activity status were related with loneliness (p<0.05). In the future studies, geriatric depression and loneliness should be considered while reviewing incontinence problems of elderly individuals. We think that it is important to evaluate the elderly individuals as a whole for the health protection and prevention of the diseases.
