Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of childhood traumas and perceived parental attitudes on emotional eating behavior in adult individuals. In addition, it is aimed to examine the relationship between the socio-demographic characteristics of the adult individuals participating in the study and the childhood traumas, perceived parental attitudes and emotional eating behavior, which are the study variables. For this purpose, 319 adult individuals, including 219 women and 100 men, living in Istanbul, were included in the study. The study was designed as a relational screening model. As data collection tools, the Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher to determine the personal characteristics of adult individuals, the Young Parenting Scale to determine perceived parental attitudes, the Childhood Mental Trauma Scale to determine childhood trauma, and the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire to determine emotional eating were used. For the purpose of the research, the hypothesis that childhood traumas and perceived parental attitudes affect emotional eating levels was tested. SPSS package program was used to analyze the obtained data. The findings obtained as a result of the study can be summarized as follows: Childhood traumas, abuse and neglect sub-dimensions were found to be moderately positive with emotional eating. Similarly, as the negativity in perceived parental attitudes increases, the level of emotional eating also increases. With these results, it was found that women's emotional eating levels and childhood trauma levels were higher, education level was related to emotional eating, and emotional eating levels of single individuals were higher than married individuals. In addition, as a result of the linear regression analysis, it was revealed that childhood traumas and perceived parental attitudes have a predictive effect on emotional eating level, and some of the variance in emotional eating level is determined by these variables. The whole result obtained as a result of the research is discussed in detail in the discussion section
