Abstract (EN)
This study aims to investigate the effects of web based mathematics games on sixth grade students? academic achievement in ?fractions and decimals? subject in mathematics lesson.The study applied in a private elementary school the distric of Istanbul in the first semester of 2010-2011 academic year was a semi-experimental study. The participiants of the study were 75 students. Two experiment groups and two control groups were formed to compare the effects of web based matematics games and manipulations and present method. After the groups were matched with fifth grade academic scores and demographic features, the groups were appointed to experiment and control groups with random selection method. The study was conducted by researcher in all groups through the experiment and lasted in eight weeks.At the beginning of the study, ?Mathematics Achievement Test? was applied in all groups as pretest and at the end of the study as posttest. At the end of the study, ?Interview Form? was used in experiment groups for getting students? opinions about techniques and application.T test and covariance analysis (ANCOVA) was used on the data obtained from achievement test to find out whether there were statistically significant differences between the groups. The result of analysis indicated that web based mathematics games were more effective in terms of academic achievement.The students in the experimental groups stated that their interest to the lesson had increased, they had motivated and learned the lesson more than before. Learning mathematics with web based games was getting fun for them.
