Abstract (EN)

Nursing is a professional occupation,which is performed by experts trained proficiently in this area,providing protective services to the individual,family or society in case of illness or health as treatment provider ,as well as being a disciplinary occupation following practical humanistic approach coexisting knowledge and skill.This study has been done as descriptive to analyse the connection between empathic tendency and hopelessnes levels of nurses working in the different fields. Materıal And Method This study includes 162 nurses working voluntarily or compulsory in the internal or surgical services within the emergency service and other units of Tokat Gazi Osman Pasha Research and Application Hospital,Tokat State Hospital and Niksar State Hospital.The data has been collected by the nurses participated in the study with the help of sociodemographic questionnaire,Beck Hopelessness Scale and Empatic Tendency Scale.The data has been evaluated by using SPSS ready statistics software.If p<0,05 in the statistics analyses,then the results have been considered meaningful. The Results 123(75,9%)female nurses and 39(24,1%) male nurses of 162 nurses have been included in this study.While 50(30,9%) of those nurses work in the emergency service,112(69,1%) of them work in the internal and surgical services.A negative relationship has been determined between the empathic tendency scores and Beck Hopelessness Scale(p<0,001).It takes attention while the nurses scores in the empathic tendency scale rise,the scores that they got in Beck Hopelessness Scale decrease.A statistical significance has been provided between the genders of the nurse and the empathic tendency levels.While female nurses',who took part in this study,empathic tendency average +/- Standart Deviation Score is 66,07+/-12,76 male nurses' average +/- SS score is 60,56+/- 13,74(p=0,024).It is found out that there is a great difference in Beck Hopelessness Scale's subscale's loss of motivation between nurse working in the emergency service and internal-surgical services.It takes attention that the scores that the nurses working in the emergency service got in the loss of motivation is higher than those nurses working in the internal-surgical services.There is no difference in the empathic tendency levels between the nurses working in the emergency service and the internal-surgical services of them who attended the study.It is important that the scores of nurses working in the emergency services is close to the internal-surgical services' nurses in the empathic tendency scores. Conclusıons When we evaluate the results of this study,it is known that the skill to develop empathy has an important position in the nursing profession while hopelessness affects both this profession and human life negatively.The empathic tendency levels of nurses have changed in accordance with their personal traits,their working units and their rising hopelessness levels,but we can rise the importance of empathy,which has an important role in the quality of care in nursing,by providing training for the institutions educating nurse candidates and the institutions that nurses have already worked.
