Abstract (EN)
The study examines the relationships between sleep quality, daily life activities, and the quality of life of older people living in nursing homes in Ağrı and Istanbul. 92 volunteer older people individuals over 65 years of age were included in the study, which was carried out between July 2020 and January 2021, staying in a nursing home in Ağrı and Istanbul. Cognitive status of the older people individuals included in the study, their quality of life with the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL-OLD), daily living activities with the Barthel Index test, and daytime sleep conditions Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ASSQ) and the previous one-month sleep qualities were evaluated with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). In this cross-sectional descriptive study, the Mann Whitney-U test was used when comparing the data of two groups. Statistical significance value was taken as p <0.05. Statistically significant differences were found in the PSQI Scale and the WHOQOL-OLD scales between the older people living in the nursing home in Ağrı and Istanbul, located at different altitudes (p <0.05). A correlation was determined between the PSQI and Barthel Index of all participants. This relationship was found to be inverse and a weak relationship (p<0.05). There is a correlation between the participants' PSQI values in Istanbul and Barthel Index data and between the ASSQ and WHOQOL-OLD. These relationships were found to be negative and moderate (p<0.05). As a result; The sleep quality of older people living in nursing homes was low. It has been determined that sleep quality significantly affects the quality of life and independence from daily living activities. Besides, it was concluded that high altitude has adverse effects on sleep quality
