Abstract (EN)
A substantial amount of fund flows are carried out through the banks in Turkey. Even though, non- banking instutions in financial sectors have demonstrated a considerable increase in both qualitatively and quantitatively in recent years, banking still remains the leader in Turkish financial sector. The share of banking sector constitutes 75 percent of Turkish financial system, which indicates the importance of the banking sector in Turkish economy. The purpose of this study is to reveal the performances of the banks, which has an important role in a country's economy. For this purpose, a thorough literature review is carried out and theoretical basis of the subject is established. Ratio measurements, which is used for bank performances, and their importance were explored. Consequently, these ratios are applied on income statement for ad hoc. Five private commercial banks, and according to these findings, it was revealed the observed performances of each banks compared to their own time-series developments and vis a vis the other banks. Finaly, the most succesfull banks are presented in a table.
