Abstract (EN)
Biomimicry, created by combining the words life and imitation, is a science that studies the physical properties and working styles of many living things on earth. The way of life of living things in nature and their reactions to dangers have been a source of inspiration for the field of design. With the concept of biomimicry, which is the art of observing and imitating nature and all kinds of behavior of living things in nature, creative solutions have emerged in many different fields such as medicine, architecture, industry and transportation. One of the areas where biomimicry is used the most is the textile industry. Innovative and functionality-oriented products have been obtained with many biomimicry applications in textile fibers, yarns, fabric surfaces and clothing design. Sustainability activities, which will enable us to transfer the world we live in to the next generations without harming us or with the least damage, are gaining more importance day by day. While creativity was expected from a design in the past, the concept of multifunctional functionality has come into play with the existence of new technologies. In the thesis, it is aimed to enrich the design with waste materials and to gain multifunctionality within the framework of the sustainability theme. In the thesis study, an experimental design was made by printing with chromic dyestuffs, which form a part of smart textiles and change color by heat or light. It is aimed to design multifunctional products including smart textiles, sustainability and biomimicry concepts. In this context, within the scope of sustainable fashion, a capsule collection was presented by creating textural surfaces from waste materials, inspired by nature, and by designing and producing models with biomimicry supported chromic print designs. With the collection prepared, innovations inspired by nature and design elements were used together, emphasizing the theme of sustainability with texture and printing applications. Biomimicry inspired smart clothing design suggestions based on sustainability are presented with interpretations and evaluations on the designed and sewn models. Within the scope of the thesis, it is predicted that the materials found in nature create countless excellent resources and potential for many textile applications. It is thought that by imitating the designs and processes in nature, sustainable, technological and innovative applications will be developed in the future and have a great potential.
