Abstract (EN)
Ahmed Pasha is a statesman who was born to a Muslim family in the Ottoman Empire in the first quarter of the 16th century and entered the Ottoman service at an early age. He was promoted to the governorship of Rumelia during the reign of Selim I, and when Sultan Suleyman ascended the throne, he was in his divan. He succeeded important tasks in the Belgrade Campaign, which was the first expedition of Sultan Suleyman, and later became a vizier. In the Rhodes campaign, which was the second great expedition, he was appointed as the serdar and became one of the most important names that affected the course of the expedition. He led the faction that stood against an experienced grand vizier like Piri Pasha in the sultan's court, and became one of Piri Pasha's biggest rivals. He was seen as the most suitable candidate for grand viziership after Piri Pasha, but İbrahim Pasha was appointed instead. Afterwards, he was appointed as the governor of Egypt and left Istanbul and then never returned to the center. His governorship of Egypt constitutes an important part of the transition process from the Mamluks to the Ottomans. In this thesis, it is aimed to reveal Ahmed Pasha's agenda in Egypt in this transition period in the light of Abdussamed Diyarbekri's work called Tercüme en-nüzhe es-seniyye fi zikr el-hulefa ve'l-müluk el-mısriyye. In addition, it aims to examine the reasons behind the rebellion of pasha who was brought to the highest authorities of the state and his attempt to establish an independent administration. The events that led Ahmed Pasha to revolt in Egypt, which groups participated in his revolt, and the network he established with local powers are some of the focal points of our research. This study, which aims to present an alternative narrative against the negative image of the pasha in Ottoman sources after the rebellion, also contributes to Ottoman historiography.
