Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to figure out the effects of passive smoking on children by comparing the parameters of body and some respiration figures of children with smoking and non-smoking parents. 200 students have taken part in this study: 100 of them are students who have not been exposed to smoke and 100 of them are students who have been exposed to smoke. Waist-thigh ratio, body mass index, hypodermic fat density and respiration functions of participants have been measured. In terms of respiration parameters, the figures of forced vital capacity (FVC), maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) and vital capacity have been evaluated. In the analysis of data 't' test has been used. Significant variations have been found between male and female participants in terms of age, height, waist-thigh ratio, body fat ratio and respiration parameters (p<0.05).And no significant variation has been found between the passive smokers and non-passive smokers in terms of age, height, waist-thigh and body fat ratio parameters (p>0.05). Whereas no differences were found in respiration parameters of passive smokers and non-passive smokers in terms of FVC and MVV figures (p>0.05) , significant difference was found in the figures of VC (p<0.05).. As a result, it has been established that children who are exposed to smoke suffer in respiration fuction of VC. Parents' changing their smoking habits will contribute to life quality of children who are exposed to smoke.
