The place of guitar education in music teaching undergraduate programs from the Republican period to the present and guitar educators' opinions about it

The aim of this research is to examine and compare the historical process of guitar education in music teaching undergraduate programs from the Republican Period to the present; To evaluate the guitar education in the current program in the context of content and practice, in line with the opinions of guitar educators, to reveal the deficiencies, if any, and to make suggestions for the implementation of the lessons. The research is a descriptive study and was conducted according to the case study model, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of the research consists of 34 guitar educators working in the music education departments of the education faculty, fine arts education department, which trains music teachers in Turkey. Data regarding the first sub-problem of the research were collected through document analysis; The data for the second and third sub-problems were obtained through a semi-structured interview form. Content analysis method was used in the analysis of the data in the research. As a result of the research; It was emphasized that the guitar instrument, which is widely used in music education, entered music teaching undergraduate programs quite late. In addition, the guitar lessons in the current program were examined in line with the opinions of guitar educators and suggestions that were thought to contribute to the field were developed.
