Abstract (EN)

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers and the most important risk factor is UVR exposure. The most important step in the prevention of skin cancer, the incidence of which is increasing all over the world, is the correct application of sun protection measures. This study, which was carried out with 96 participants who applied to 5 ASMs (Family Health Centres)determined in Denizli city center between June and August 2022, consists of two stages. In the first phase, which is a cross-sectional type, the sun protection behaviors of the participants were questioned; The Skin Cancer and Sun Knowledge Scale was used to determine the knowledge levels. In the second stage, which is the intervention study; After the first test, the effect of the face-to-face training given to the participants by the same person by using the training materials on both the short and long term knowledge level and behaviors was investigated. SCSK mean scores were 13.11±3.38 before education; 21.34±2.87 immediately after training; 1 month after the training, it was determined as 20.02±2.89. The most common precaution to protect from the sun, both before and after training, is to stay in the shade; The least precautionary measure is to use sunscreen. After the training given, the rate of those who see the sun as a danger increased from 58.3% to 99%; the rate of those who prefer dark and long clothes increased from 57.3% to 91.7%; the rate of following the change of moles increased from 57.3% to 95.8%. The training provided includes the knowledge level of the participants; It was effective in increasing the frequency of all sun protection behaviors except the use of sunscreen and sunglasses. Individuals should be informed about skin cancer and sun protection, they should be provided with sun protection measures, each individual should be taught about skin examination, and necessary screenings for skin cancer should be done.
