Abstract (EN)

In our study, it was aimed to prophylactically investigate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of different doses of fig seed oil obtained by cold pressing the seeds of the fruits of the fig (Ficus carica) plant on cardiotoxicity induced by doxorubicin. Since there is no study in the literature on this subject, our study was the first in its field. In our study, 32 young adult male Wistar albino rats (200-250 grams) were divided into 4 groups (n=8). The experimental period was determined as 7 days for the rats divided into Control Group, Doxorubicin Group (DOX), Doxorubicin+Low-Dose Fig Seed Oil Group -3 ml/kg- (IÇY3) and Doxorubicin+High-Dose Fig Seed Oil Group -6 ml/kg- (IÇY6) groups. Every day for a week, 3 ml/kg of fig seed oil was given to the IÇY3 group by intragastric gavage, and 6 ml/kg of fig seed oil was given to the IÇY6 group by intragastric gavage every day. On the 5th day of the experiment, a single dose of doxorubicin (15 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally to all groups; In the control group, a single dose of 0.9% saline was injected. During the experiment, after all animals were exposed to the manipulations of their own groups, they were sacrificed on the 8th day and blood samples and heart tissues were taken for biochemical and histological examination, statistical analyzes were made and interpreted. As a result of histological findings, it was determined that the cardiac changes caused by DOX were significantly improved in the group treated with fig seed oil. It was found that fig seed oil showed antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, causing statistically significant positive changes in MDA, MPO, GPx, SOD, CAT, CK, TNF-α and IL-1β levels. According to the results of our study, fig seed oil has a cardioprotective effect on DOX-induced cardiotoxicity.
