Abstract (EN)
Objective: We did not find any study comparing the to effect of personality traits and optimism on oral health-related quality of life with lip-palate cleft patients and different severely orthodontic malocclusion patients who applied to the orthodontic clinic. The aim of this thesis is to assess the effect of orthodontic treatment needs, personality traits and optimism on oral health-related quality of life with between 11-14 aged lip-palate cleft patients and different severely orthodontic malocclusion patients by using CPQ 11-14 scale. Materials and Methods: Material of the study consisted of 116 patients who applied for orthodontic treatment. These patients consisted of three groups. The first group included patients with lip and cleft palate, the second group included patients with severe malocclusion and the third group included patients with normal orthodontic anomalies. The severity of malocclusion was determined by ICON index, SNGoGn and ANB angle. CPQ 11-14 was used to determine the oral health related quality of life in these patients, the Basic Personality Characteristics Scale for the measurement of personality traits and the Life Orientation Test-Revise scales for measuring the optimism tendency. Determining the need for objective orthodontic treatment the ICON index and the need for subjective orthodontic treatment were determined using the AC scale. Descriptive statistical methods (mean, standard deviation), one way variance analysis, Tukey multiple comparison test, independent t test, Pearson and Spearman correlation tests were used in the evaluation of the data. The results were evaluated with a significance level of p <0.05 and a confidence interval of 95%. Conclusion: It was determined that patients with lip and palate cleft had lower oral health related quality of life. Patients with severe malocclusion and patients with normal malocclusion were followed by patients with lip and palate cleft. It has been determined that the oral health related quality of life of patients with lip and palate cleft has a negative relationship with neuroticism. It was determined that oral health-related quality of life in patients with normal malocclusion was negatively correlated with neuroticism and negative valence. The use of these scales during routine patient intake in order to contribute to the economy of the country will be able to provide unnecessary treatment and thus reduce the costs incurred during this treatment. We believe that more efforts should be made to improve oral health in these regions of the country and that the formation of anomalies should be reduced by giving importance to preventive dentistry and orthodontics.
