Abstract (EN)
Purpose: In this study, we have aimed analysis of levels of B12, cholesterol and trace elements in patients who are 15 age or over and were admitted to suicide approach to Duzce Medical Faculty Research Hospital Emergency Policlinic. Method: Levels of B12, cholesterol and trace elements were analyzed in patients who are 15 age or over and were admitted to suicide approach to Duzce Medical Faculty Research Hospital Emergency Service between April 2014-April 2015 at this descriptive and cross-sectional study. 38 suicides and 28 controls were enrolled to study. Suicide group consisted of 23 female, 15 male; Control group consisted of 20 female, 8 male. Control group were selected from healthy applicant to Duzce Medical Faculty Research Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic who was appropriate to the study inclusion criteria. In this study, data form was the recorded of demographic data which is prepared by the researchers and Scoring Hamilton Depression (HAM-D index) was used. Trace element analysis was performed on serum with ICP-MS method in suicide and control group. Results: The average BMI measured 26.4 in the control and 22.9 in the suicide group and this difference was statistically significant (p=0.044). There was significantly more smoking use in suicide group than control group (as pack-years) (p=0,042). A statistically significant difference between suicide and control groups in terms of marital status was not determined (p=0,071). Cr (chromium), Co (cobalt), Ni (nickel), Cu (copper), Zn (zinc), Se (Selenium), Rh (rhodium), Pd (palladium) values in the suicide group than the control group was detected lower significantly (P values; for Cr: 0,000; for Co: 0,000; for Ni: 0,015; for Cu: 0,031; for Zn: 0,002; for Se: 0,042). Vitamin b12 level was lower in the suicide group vs. control (p=0,044). There was weak negative correlation between vitamin B12 and HAMD scores (r=-0,287; p=0,019). There was strong negative correlation between 105Pd (Serum Pd: serum Palladium) and HAMD scores (r=-0,542; p=0,003). There was moderate negative correlation between serum zinc and HAMD scores (r=-0,368; p=0,003). Conclusion: In our study, as a result, "this test consisting of 1 major+1 minor criteria" (HAM-D Score >15 and widowhood, two together: 1 major criteria; LDL<90 or Vitamin B12<200: one minor criteria) has %89 specificity, %90 positive predictive value, %78 sensitivity, %75 negative predictive value, according to our study and this test is predictable as a screening test for the suicide group. Negative correlations found between HAM-D scores with serum levels 66Zn and 105Pd and it was thought that the findings could be an attractive attention in terms of suicide.
