Abstract (EN)

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of cardiometabolic risk factors on the quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes. Method: Sampling a total of 370 diabetic individuals were enrolled in the Endocrinology and Metabolism Diseases Policlinic of the Akdeniz University Hospital, of which 227 women and 143 men were followed up and treated for type 2 diabetes. The data were collected by face-to-face interview using the Personal Information Form, Anthropometric Measurement Form, Cardiometabolic Risk Factors Form and Diabetes Health Profile-18. In the analysis of data descriptive statistics; Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, Pearson Chi-square test, internal consistency coefficient, Yates correction, Fisher exact test and Fisher Freeman Halton test were used. Results: The mean age of the patients included in the study was 53.91 ± 12.293 years, 61.4% of them were women, and 57.6% of them were diagnosed with diabetes for 6 years or more. In this study 58.9% of the patients had hypertension, 78.1% were oral-antidiabetic, 47.6% were taking insulin treatment, 68.1% reported dieting. According to the Framingham Risk Score, 33.8% of patients were very high and 10% were at high cardiometabolic risk. The Turkish version of the Diabetes Health Profile Scale-18 had a Cronbach alpha of 0.89. The total score of the scale was 52.65 and the quality of life of the patients was found to be worse. A statistically significant difference was found between the subscale of the scale and the mean of total scores and sociodemographic characteristics such as age, educational and occupational status, disease characteristics such as duration of diagnosis, other chronic diseases, and cardiometabolic risk factors such as cholesterol and blood pressure (p<0.005). Conclusion: In the light of the results obtained from the study, it was seen that individuals with type 2 diabetes were at high risk for cardiometabolic risk factors and the quality of life was deteriorated with increasing cardiometabolic risk factors. It was recommended that individuals with Type 2 diabetes should be regularly assessed for cardiometabolic risks and supported with methods of improving quality of life. Key words: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiometabolic risk factors, quality of life
