Investigation of the relationship between marital adjustment and empathic tendency levels and problem solving skills

Purpose: It was aimed to examine the relationship between marital adjustment, empathic disposition levels and problem solving abilities in this study. Method: The research group consists of married men and women residing in Istanbul in 2020-2021. The study group of the research was carried out on 200 married individuals (103 women and 97 men) randomly selected on a voluntary basis. Research in the collection of data; Sociodemographic Data Form, Empathic Tendency Scale, Marriage Problem Solving Scale and Marriage Adjustment Scale were used. Relational screening model was used in the study. In the analysis of data; Descriptive statistics regarding the data constituting the structure of the sample, reliability and factor analyzes of the scales, independent t-test, correlation, Anova test, and Tukey test were used in the test of the group that caused the difference (Post-hoc analysis), and regression analysis was used to evaluate the relationship of the dependent variable with the independent variables. The p value was taken as .05 in the evaluations. Results: According to the research findings, it was seen that the variables of gender and educational status did not predict marital adjustment. There was a good level of positively between marital adjustment and problem solving skill; There is no significant relationship between marital adjustment and empathic tendency level; It has been determined that there is no significant relationship between problem solving skill and empathic disposition. Result: Since the number of studies in this field in our country is limited, it is important that our study will fill this gap. It is thought that this study will contribute to the research and development of marriage literature in Turkey.
