The role of social integration(The city of Diyarbakir as an example)

This study aims to display the effects of football on social integration in the city of Diyarbakır and during the course of this study the sociological definition of social integration will be outlined. Additionally, the method of determining social integration, the elements that contributed to social integration and the role that football plays in achieving social integration are defined.The 'Documentation Method' was used while forming the oretical framework. At this stage, primary and secondary resources were evaluated using the `Comprehensive Observation Technique,? whereas historical resources were evaluated using the `Retrospective Method? that is commonly utilized for historical researches. Additionally, the 'Survey Method' was used to strengthen the oretical framework of this study.The population of the study is consisted of individuals and organizations involved in sports in Turkey and the sample of the study is consisted of individuals and organizations involved in sports in Diyarbakır. The Social Integration Scale in sports was used as a data collection tool.The data that was obtained from the study was evaluated using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 13.0 program. In order to determine the general distribution characteristics of the information, descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage were used along with One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and HSD Tukey tests.While determing the role of football on social integration, the effect of variances such as the age and gender of the participants were found unimportant on individual development, socialization, physical effectiveness, integration, psychological development , moral development and emotional development. However, variances such as duty and the length of duty were found to be important.Key words: Social Integration, Football, Sport.
