Opinions of industry employees on graphic design education in fine arts education departments

This research was carried out in face-to-face interviews with industry employees working in various graphic design agencies, newspapers, advertising firms and freelance in the provinces of Bolu and Düzce. In the research, it has been examined whether education is necessary to work in the graphic sector in line with the opinions obtained as a result of the experiences of the sector employees. It is aimed to collect the opinions of the sector employees about the necessity of education. A total of 20 industry employees, 10 of whom had received graphic design education and 10 who had not received graphic design education, were included in the qualitative study. A semi-structured 'Graphic Design Industry Employees Interview Form' was prepared as a data collection tool in order to collect the opinions of the employees about graphic design education. The interview form was created by taking the opinions of 3 assessment and evaluation experts and 1 field expert. The data collected during the interview was recorded on a voice recorder with the permission of the volunteer participants and turned into a written document by the researcher. Codes, categories and themes were created with the documented data. The formula suggested by Miles and Huberman (1994) was used to measure the coder reliability with the codes created individually by another field expert. In the research findings, it is seen that the majority of the sector employees find education necessary in order to work in the sector, and experience is also considered as important besides the education. It shows that on the basis of the necessity of education, it contributes to the designer in terms of knowledge, aesthetics and art. It has been determined that the education given in educational institutions during the design education period has a problem of adaptation with the sector and that the education programs should meet the expectations of the sector.
