Bornout syndrome in women's accounting professionals: A research in Adana

Today, it is an undeniable fact that professional business life deforms employees mentally and emotionally. This negative effect of work life on employees may cause emotional burnout, decrease in sense of personal accomplishment and depersonalization. These feelings are the main indicators of burnout syndrome. The profession of accountancy is among the dynamic, intensive and high-performing occupations. Therefore, individuals performing the profession are affected mentally and emotionally while fulfilling the requirements of the profession and increase the probability of experiencing burnout syndrome. Taking into account the profession as a woman and the roles society imposes on women, it creates a separate pressure on the individual. In this thesis, it is aimed to determine the professional burnout levels of female accountants with their dimensions and to investigate the effect of female identity and demographic elements on this level. As a result of the study, it was found that the professional experience of the women in Adana province were influenced by burnout dimensions, duration of professional experience, marital status, having children and gender perception.
