Violence against women is an old and widespread phenomenon. Despite its antiquity, addressing it as a social issue necessitates study and societal intervention through developing solutions and enacting legislation to mitigate this problem. However, such attention has only recently emerged. Despite that, it has not been equally acknowledged in all societies. There are still communities that, to this day, suffice with sympathy and discussion of this phenomenon without taking real action to confront it and reduce its negative effects. Therefore, the issue of violence against women is a problem with historical, cultural, and societal dimensions. It is not limited to a specific place or time, nor is it solely associated with the nature of a civilized or backward society, Western or Eastern. Rather, it is a problem linked to the existence of human beings and the mutual relationships between men and women within the family unit. Women play a fundamental role in every society as a source of strength and excellence. The violence that women experience is more destructive to societies than wars, as it erodes the foundation of the community, weakens it, and eventually destroys it. Women constitute half of society and are responsible for raising the other half. The phenomenon of violence against women is one of the most pervasive, persistent, and destructive human rights violations in our world today. It remains largely unknown due to factors such as impunity, silence, and stigma surrounding it. As long as violence against women continues, no country in the world can achieve any real progress towards justice and peace in society. In this study, the researcher employed a Case Study approach. The researcher selected the vocabulary based on an estimation that the chosen cases would serve the research purpose. The study sample consisted of 15 women who had experienced violence. The researcher utilized both interviews and observations as research instruments. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to adding knowledge and scientific understanding about the nature of this phenomenon. It can provide us with a more accurate understanding of lived reality through theoretical and social perspectives. - This study addresses a social phenomenon, namely violence against women, shedding light on its major causal factors and its severe repercussions on family stability within society. - It aims to preserve the institution of the family, which is the primary unit in society, by preventing family disintegration and divorce, as the effects of such issues impact the lives of individuals within the family and society as a whole. - The study seeks to understand the key dimensions of the problem of violence against women and identify the underlying causes that contribute to its development and prevalence in society. - It aims to gain a deeper understanding of the issue of violence against women and propose suitable solutions, recommendations, and measures to curb its spread. The study aimed to: - Identify the social factors contributing to the phenomenon of violence against women. - Identify the economic factors associated with violence against women. - Identify the cultural factors influencing violence against women. - Uncover the negative effects of violence against women on the family and society. Results: - The study found that violence against women is not correlated with women's educational level. All women, regardless of their education, are susceptible to violence. This includes educated and illiterate women, rich and poor, working women and homemakers, married and divorced women, widows and single women, as well as girls, teenagers, and elderly women. - Furthermore, the study revealed that economic factors and economic abuse play a significant role in perpetuating violence against women. - The study also highlighted the significant role of social factors in the perpetuation of violence against women. This includes cultural norms, traditions, and male dominance. - Additionally, the study found that women's silence and acceptance of violence are major contributing factors to its continuation.
