The cost analysis of children with mental retardation in Karadeniz Technical University Farabi Hospital

This research in this direction, patients with mental retardation children's costanalysis was performed to determine in the Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) Farabi Hospital. The research was done with 40 MR inpatient (10 female and 30 male) who get treatment at the age of 4-18 at KTU Farabi Hospital between 01/01/2014 and 31/05/2014. Data were collected from files of patients and from the Cost Analysis Assessment Survey of Children with Mental Retardation between 01.06.2013-30.05.2014. 25 percent of patients are female and 75 percent are male. 47.5 percent of them are living in the country and 65 percent have SSK (National Health Insurance Agency) insurance. 57.5 percent of the patients salary are under 900 Turkish Liras. The age of 45 percent pregnants are under 29. 35 percent of families have first-degree intermarriage. 55 percent had hypoxic birth, and 70 percent are epilepsy patients. 45.0 of the patients came to the hospital for lower respiratory tract infection-the most common reason with the 35.0 percent. In our group of patients with very severe MR got 5 months treatment and stayed on average 121.50 days in the hospital and the total cost of treatment that carried out for the patients is 67259,60 Turkish Liras. As a result of this study we learn that mentally handicapped children are treated in hospitals for MR and in addition to infections to these illnesses (ASYE, bronchitis- asthma, epilepsy, malnutrition, convulsions) and these factors significantly increase the cost of treatment and nursing.
