Abstract (EN)

Today, the importance given to consumption is increasing day by day and the consumption purposes of individuals are differentiated. These differences bring new dimensions to the concept of consumption and new irrational consumption models and styles emerge. Compulsive buying behavior, which is accepted as an impulsive disorder and that emerges as a result of individuals inability to control their purchasing desire, is among the irrational consumption behaviors. The consequences of compulsive buying behavior create negativities on the individuals and society. For this reason, it is seen that the academic studies on the subject have increased recently. In this study, the relationships between compulsive buying behavior and personality, conspicuous consumption and internet addiction has been examined. 839 data collected by face-to-face and online surveys from consumers over the age of 18 residing in Istanbul were analyzed. A structural model was created to examine the relationships between variables and path analysis was used. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that personality, conspicuous consumption and internet addiction had significant effects on individuals compulsive buying tendency. In addition, it was determined that there were differences between the gender, income level, education level, age and number of credit cards used and compulsive buying tendencies of the participants.
