Determination of serum 25 hydroxy vitamin D3 levels in some parasier dermatologies in dogs

Abstract (EN)

Vitamin D oil is a secostereod prehormone; either by diet (Vitamin D2-ergesterol) or by photosynthesis of provitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), 7-Dehydrocholesterol (7 DHCC), which is present in the epidermis. Provitamin D3 (ProVD3) present in the epidermis is not biologically active. After exposure to ProVD3 ultraviolet rays, it is photolyzed again with the inactivated Previtamin D3 (PreVD3). In this study, it was aimed to measure 25 hydroxy vitamin D3 levels in dogs with different parasitic dermatoses and to determine their relation with disease activity. Aforementioned research groups were as follows; 1. Group: Demodectic mange, 2. Group: Sarcoptic mange (scabies), 3. Group: Canine Visceral Leishmaiasis, 4. Group: Other cases with parasitic dermatosis will be included in the study. 5. Group: Negative (non-infections) but dermatosis due to parasitic dermatoses, finally 6. Group: (n=10) will have healthy dogs without any disease table (absolutely no dermatosis). In all groups of dogs, vena cephalica antebrachii will be subjected to centrifugation by taking 2 ml samples of blood from non-anticoagulant serum tubes and then 25 hydroxy vitamin D3 levels will be determined by radioimmunoassay method. Appropriate statistical methods will be used in the calculation and comparison of the obtained parameters. In our literature review, we have not been able to identify a clinically-based study of D avitaminosis/hypovitaminosis or hypervitaminosis in parasitic skin diseases in dogs characterized by veterinary dermatological studies, as mentioned above in part. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the profile of vitamin D in dogs diagnosed with dermatitis with different parasitic factors. We believe that treatment protocols may change with the determination of the relationship of some selected parasitic diseases with vitamin D in dogs. Determining the relationship between acquired data and possible disease in dogs with potential Vitamin D profiling suggests that this void in the resulting literature will be filled in and will form the basis for existing studies and later on the work to be done, especially regarding the prognosis, monitoring and possibly treatment protocols of the disease. Besides, it is considered that the positive results that can be obtained contribute to the international literature and will contribute to the field of Veterinary Internal Medicine and Parasitology. By the evaluation of the scientific data to be obtained when the project is concluded, presentations will be made both in national and international arenas / congresses and contribution to the literature will be provided.
