The effect of education based on orem's self-care deficit theory on quality of life for patients who have surgery for chronic venous insufficiency

This study was conducted as a quasy-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group in order to determine the effect of the education based on Orem's self-care theory, which was given to patients who underwent surgery for chronic venous insufficiency, on the quality of life. The study, was completed with 120 patients who applied to the Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic of Ankara city hospital between June 2020-August 2022 for chronic venous insufficiency surgery. For data collection, the "Patient Information Form", "Venous Insufficiency Epidemiological and Economic Study-Quality of Life/Symptoms Scale", ''Knowledge Level Evaluation Form Aboutthe Post-Discharge Period'' and ''Education Brochure Based On Orem's Self-Care Theory'' was used. In addition to patients who were in interference group received education which was education brochure. The data were evaluated using mean, Standard deviation, median, frequency, KolmogrowSmirnow test, One-Way Analysis of Variance Independent Groups t test, Mann Whitney U test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests,Spearman Correlation coefficient for continuous variables. A value of p<0.05 was considered statistically significant for all results. The meanage of the patients were 43.15±13.27 intervention group (n=60) and 51.35±13.27 years in the control group (n=60), 68.3% intervention group and 58.3% control group were female.The means core of the patients who received discharge training life quality 85.83 (±20.52) was found to be higher than the patients who didn't receive training life quality 64.70 (±21.25), and it was found to be statistically significant (p=0.023). As a result of the study, it was determined that the preoperative discharge education and post-discharge follow-up reduced the severity of symptoms and positively increased the quality of life in the patients.
