Examination of vocational high school students of the dicipline perception

Discipline is one of the most important factors for educational institutions and in classroom management. This is mainly because teachers use a significant portion of their teaching times to build and maintain discipline in the classroom setting. Rather than using old and classical methods to enforce discipline, we need methods that generate discipline by including the students into decision making process, making them take responsibilities and fulfill themselves.This research is conducted to analyze the discipline perception of vocational and technical Anatolian high school students. In the first part of the survey, there are 10 questions on students' personal information. In the second part of the survey, there are questions to understand discipline perception of these students. Frequency (f), percentage (%), arithmetic mean (X ̅), standard deviation (ss) statistics are used to analyze the raw data, t-test is used to analyze significance of difference between means, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used for multiple variables. If there is a significant difference in variance, we also use a complementary analysis, Scheffe test, to determine the difference between groups. When variation is not homogenous, we use Tamhane's T2 multiple comparison test.According to the findings of this research, gender difference of vocational and technical Anatolian high school students does not affect their perception of discipline. It is also found that class size increases the rate of school crimes; students' family structure (who they live with) does not affect their discipline perception; education level of students' mothers make a difference in their inclination for discipline (surprisingly, students of more educated mothers are more inclined for crimes). Almost 73% of the students are aware of what constitutes disciplinary offense in school and classroom setting. Moreover, most of these students believe that talking or cheating in exams is quite normal. The most common inappropriate behaviors are found to be arguing with the teacher and avoiding ceremonies and special days.
