The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) cultural policies 1999-2011

The political, economic, and cultural atmosphere created by globalization, which has increased its influence Day by day in the Twenty-First Century, has resulted in a re-evaluation of the concept of culture and cultural policies. The decisions taken at UNESCO for the protection of culture and cultural heritage and the cultural policies created by each country within the framework of their conditions and opportunities show that the concept of culture is increasingly on the axis of countries and will take place in the next process. In this context, it is seen that each country and the political parties and non-governmental organizations active within the country produce policies on culture or reveal their perspectives on culture in various ways. In this study, a general framework was drawn up regarding the approaches of the Nationalist Movement Party, one of the oldest parties in Turkey, on culture and cultural policies in general since its founding years. In particular, the main scope of the study, the ideas, suggestions, criticisms about the cultural policies of the MHP between 1999-2011 and the work put forward in this field, as well as the work of some MHP local governments selected as examples were examined.
