Evaluation of the effect of effective music teaching methods used in secondary school music education on student success

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the contribution of the practices that use effective teaching methods and techniques in secondary school music education to the success level of students. Mixed research pattern and sequential explanatory pattern were used in the research. In line with the purpose of the research, experimental and control groups were determined from the 7th graders in Toki Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Secondary School in İnegöl district of Bursa province and an 8-week training process was carried out with the experimental group. At the end of the education process, post-test application was carried out to the experimental and control groups by using the "knowledge test" prepared by the researcher. SPSS 23.0 package program was used for the statistical solutions of the data obtained. The data obtained as a result of one-to-one interviews with the experimental group studying in the 7th grade of secondary school and the qualitative data in the study were analyzed and interpreted using the semi-structured interview form. According to the quantitative data results of the research, it was determined that there was a significant difference in favor of the experimental group as a result of the independent sample t-test of the experimental and control groups. In the qualitative part of the research, 6 themes and 34 codes were reached as a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the semi-structured interview form. In line with the found themes and codes, it was concluded that activities consisting of effective music teaching methods and techniques, worksheets, phonomy technique, material diversity, student-centered activities and extracurricular activities contribute to the learning level.
