Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Purpose: Obesity is a disease that affects all age groups in the developing world and tends to increase in prevalence. In this study, it was aimed to determine the influence of unreasoning beliefs of parents on nutrition, school success and perfection of students and to give an example to the general approach of family physicians to obesity situations. Materials and Methods: The study population consisted of 505 students and their families in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades who continued to study and accepted to study between 16.05.2016-20.05.2016. Sociodemographic questionnaire, three-factor nutrition questionnaire and positive-negative perfectionism questionnaire were applied to the students. Sociodemographic questionnaires and parents' irrational beliefs scale were applied to their families. The collected data were entered on a computer and statistics were made with the SPSS 21.0 package program. Results: 254 women, 251 male students and their families participated in our study. 41 of the students were obese (8.1%), 371 (73.5%) were normal, 65 (12.9%) and 28 (5.5%) were obese. There was a significant difference when compared to sex (p: 0,00). Less obese than 10 years old. There was a significant difference between mother education level and BMI (p: 0.017). As maternal education increases, BMI of children fall . A significant difference was found when the level of father education was compared with the BMI of children. (P = 0.011). Children's BMI fall as parents arrange education In a three-factor nutrition survey; In Factors 1, 2 and 4 there is a significant difference between weak and obese students (p<0.01). No significant difference was found in factor 3 (p>0.05) A significant difference was found between the BMI and the positive perfectionism status of the students (p <0.01). There was no significant difference between parental perfectionism and expectation and children's BMI( p >0.05) Conclusion: Obesity is a disease that can cause many diseases. Family physicians are concerned with all the acute and chronic problems of their patients. In addition, obesity is not only seen as a physical disease and is separated from other branches by its holistic approach.
