A comparative analysis of the classic Arabic words that changed in sound, form and meaning in The Ottoman Turkish

In this thesis, Ferit Devellioğlu's Osmanlıca- Türkçe Ansiklopedik Lûgat (Ottoman-Turkish Encyclopedic Dictionary) republished in 2015 were studied. As results, in the Ottoman era, the new words derived from the Arabic roots and via the Arabic rules or the Arabic borrowings that have gained new meanings and used differently according to their original forms in Ottoman Turkish have been comparatively studied. The thesis is composed of two main chapters in addition to the Introduction and the Conclusion. The Introduction demonstrates information about the historical lingual relations between Arabic and Turkish, the influence of Arabic on Ottoman Turkish, Arabic language family, first written documents, speech language, written language (Classical Arabic), the sound characteristics of classical Arabic and Arabic alphabet. Moreover, information about Turkish Language, language family, first written documents, historical and contemporary written languages, Ottoman alphabet and the sound characteristics. In the other two chapters, Ottoman Turkish followed the Arabic grammar rules, in deriving words that are not used in the Arabic language. Therefore, new meanings and changes in sound in the quoted Arabic words and the differences derived from the Arabic roots in Ottoman Turkish were found out. The study was comparative between the Classical Arabic and Ottoman Turkish. In Conclusion, results were analytically explained.
