Health communication: The relation with cancer patients and doctor

Health communication is a concept that cannot be restricted and it covers patients, physicians, health care workers, health care providers and whole process between these parts. Today, the importance of the patient-doctor relationship is increasing. When patients are satisfied with the communication established with their physicians, they can open themselves to treatment more comfortably. Health communication plays an important role in the patient's health. When physicians examine their patient, even communicate with medical terminology causes the patient to experience difficulties in communication. In terms of physicians, not sparing enough time to patient causes the communication problems. The patient needs to be informed about on her/his treatment by the physician. When the patients have not enough information about the treatment, they can get wrong information about the disease from the social media or other means. This can affect the patient's healthy negatively. The concepts of patient and disease bring to mind the patient rights. Patient rights protect both the rights of patients and the physicians. They are important to improve and enhance health services. Treatment of patients by the physicians creates a cooperation between them. This cooperation aims to ensure an improvement in patients' treatment. The physicians obtain the patients' consent within the scope of patient rights and consent by providing the required information about the treatment during the interventions they carry out. Patients legally have the right to decide regarding their own treatment and quit the treatment. Effective and healthy communication between physicians and patients can be ensured by physicians listening to and empathizing with patients, and patients trusting physicians. Empathy provides positive returns in communication and should be used by physicians for patients. It means that physicians can look from patients' perspective and important in the communication between them. Physicians who can empathize with their patients can have a successful communication with them since they can completely understand them. In addition, physicians' listening to their patients can only be possible by completely perceiving what their patients say from the minute they met the patients. This study aims to reveal the communication that should exist between patients and physicians.
