Abstract (EN)

This study is a translation, evaluation and edition critic of the work İlmü'l- Afak ve'l-Enfüs by Semerkandi. The work includes Logic, Philosophy, Kalam, Astronomy, Climatology, Zoology, Botanic, Mineralogy, Geography, Geometry, Anatomy and Islamic Mysticism, so called Sufism. As it is known Aristotle's philosophy of metaphysics was transferred into the Islamic world of thinking in early ages by the Islamic philosophers under the influence of translation movement of the era. Afterwards these ideas gained the perspective of Quran, in other words, scholastic theologian perspective by scholars working kalam and this created the basics of the philosophical words of the Scriptures. The work İlmü'l- Afak ve'l-Enfüs is one of the unique examples of this. Another important feature of this work is that Semerkandî made a summary of the scientific accumulation of the theological knowledge of the era. Basic belief called mesail and makasıd (problems and intentions) and the knowledge that are used to prove the basic belief called mebadi and vesail (starting point from which a Saint proceeds to a knowledge of Gog and pretext) has been placed systematically throughout the work in terms of context and style of writing. The work brings up the ingenious phantom of the created, which are present in the afak and enfüs (subjectivism and objectivism) and emphasized by God in the Quran, in a panoramic vision. In order to reach a full and doubtless stage of faith, the aim is to make the reason and deduction the starting point, and training the self (soul) by asceticism (zühd ve takva) and raising up to the stage of perfect, complete and well conducted man to gain a full understanding of God. Key Words: asceticism, philosophical and scriptures tradition, mesail, mebadi, Aristotle's metaphysics, God, soul, logic, philosophy, astronomy, scriptures, Sufism
