Comparative study of classroom teacher's self-efficacy beliefs and their attitudes towards the profession

Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the difference between the self-efficacy beliefs and attitudes towards the teaching profession of the classroom teachers. It is determined whether there is a difference between the classroom teachers; self-efficacy beliefs and attitudes towards the profession; and gender, marital status, educational status and variables professional seniority. General survey model was used in the research. The sample of the study consists of 342 classroom teachers working in central districts of İzmir province in 2017-2018 academic year. The data of the research were used as the; Attitude Scale towards Teaching Profession; developed by Göloğlu Demir and Gelişli (2018) and the; Teacher Self-Efficacy Belief; developed by Çolak, Yorulmaz, Altınkurt (2017). The teachers internal consistency coefficient of the attitude scale towards the profession was 0.919, while the internal consistency coefficient of the teachers self-efficacy scale was found to be 0.973. The analysis of the data was done with package programs. In analyzing the data, frequency, percentage, rank average, Mann Whitney-U, Kruskal Wallis-H, Spearman Brown statistical analysis techniques were used. In the study, the levels of self-efficacy beliefs towards the teaching profession were examined according to their sub-dimensions. While it was determined that the highest participation of teachers' was found to the 2nd item in the teachers self-efficacy belief scale, the lowest participation was to the 21st item. In the research, it is seen that the attitude levels of teachers are examined according to their sub-dimensions. While it was observed that teachers showed the highest participation in item 32 of this scale, they showed the lowest participation in item 17. The relationship between teachers self-efficacy beliefs and attitudes was determined by comparing sub-dimensions. It was observed that there was a low level of positive correlation between teachers self-efficacy beliefsand general attitude levels. In the literature, there are studies in which similar results are obtained, but there are also studies in which different results are obtained.
