Structural and bio-technical analysis of aquaculture farms in Kocaeli

This study has been carried out to determine the technical potential and the problems of the aquaculture facilities in Kocaeli province and to reveal solution proposals in order to enable the development of this sector. 17 licensed aquaculture facilities in total were spotted in the region. Face to face questionnaire was applied in 15 active facilities, and the data about their problems and the present situation of the facilities were collected. The total production capacity of these facilities was determined as 237.5 tons/year while the total projected capacity was 247.25 tons/year. The average feed ratio (FCR) was found as 1.05 in land and cage facilities. It has been found that the pools were not used productively and the stocking density was low. The present aquaculture investment in Kocaeli province must be rearranged depending on scientific data.
