Examining the technology usage levels of history teachers in the process of distance education: The case of Çorum province

Technology, which is a struggle to keep up with the changing conditions of the world, is developing day by day, and this development inevitably affects education and the understanding of education. The distance education period, started with the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in 2020, showed how important the relationship between education and technology is. The aim of this study is to examine the technology use levels of history teachers in terms of various variables. For this purpose, the "Scale for Determining the Levels of Educational Technology Use of Teachers" developed by Bayraktar (2015) was applied to 91 history teachers working in different secondary education institutions in the province of Çorum in the 2022-2023 academic year; The obtained data were analyzed with SPSS Statistics Program. In line with the purpose of the study, four sub-dimensions of the scale were analyzed, namely technology literacy, technology integration into the lesson, social ethics and legal provisions and communication, through the main problem of examining the technology use levels of history teachers. Descriptive analysis, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, unrelated samples t-test, and one-factor analysis of variance between groups were used to determine the level of technology use of history teachers according to the variables of gender, age, education level, education in the field of technology, place of residence, school type. At the end of the general evaluation, the teachers; medium level in technology literacy sub-dimension; It was determined that it was at a good level in the sub-dimension of technology integration into the lesson, at a very good level in the sub-dimension of social ethics and legal provisions, and at a good level in the sub-dimension of communication. As a result, the characteristics of teachers vary in different dimensions in the use of technology. Depending on this situation, the characteristics of teachers differ and it is thought that this situation affects productivity in distance education. Suggestions were made on the results obtained in the study.
