Abstract (EN)

Aim: This semi-experimental research was made to determine the effect of 5 body positions (45°supine, 60°supine, 90°supine,45°right lateral, 45°left lateral) on oxygen saturation and physiological parameters in patients with unlateral and bilateral lung disease. Methods: The population of the study consisted of patients with unlateral and bilateral lung disease who are over 18 years old. The sample of the study consisted of 109 voluntary patients with unlateral and bilateral lung disease who are over 18 years old hospitalized in Dokuz Eylül University Hospital Chest Diasese Clinic. The research was implemented between the date 10 December 2013 – 15 September 2015. Patients were positioned in different 5 body positions (45°supine, 60° supine, 90° supine, 45°right lateral, 45° left lateral) and on 10., 25th, and 40th minutes oxygen saturation were measured and pulse rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, respiratory rate and body temperature values were recorded. Simple randomisation method was used in determining the delivery order of position in every patients. Patient Introductory Form and Monitoring Form For Physiologic Parameters were used in collecting the data of the study. For implementing the research written permission was obtained from Ethical Committee for Scientific Research and clinics where the research was done. For implementing the research written permission was obtained from patient/patients'relatives who attended to the study. Wilcoxon test and percentage were used in analysis of data. Findings While mean oxygen saturation was 94,10 in the left side position at 45°, mean oxygen saturation was 95,85 in the right side position at 45° in the patients with right lung disease at tenth minute (Z=-2,596, p=0,009). While mean oxygen saturation was 94,33 in the seated position in bed at 90°, mean oxygen saturation was 96,33'tür in the semi-seated position in bed at 45° in the patients with left lung disease in the tenth minute (Z=-2,710, p=0,007). While mean oxygen saturation was 93,72 in the left side position at 45°, mean oxygen saturation was 95,79 in the right side position at 45° in the patients with bilateral lung disease at tenth minute (Z = -4.099, p = 0.000). While mean oxygen saturation was 93,80 in the semi-seated position in bed at 60°, mean oxygen saturation was 95,79 in the seated position in bed at 90°, in the patients with bilateral lung disease at tenth minute (Z = -3.859, p = 0.000). While mean oxygen saturation was 93,80 in the seated position in bed at 90°, mean oxygen saturation was 95,70 in the left side position at 45°, in the patients with right lung disease at twenty fifth minute (Z = -2.350, p = 0.019). While mean oxygen saturation was 94,90 in the semi-seated position in bed at 60°, mean oxygen saturation was 96,66 in the right side position at 45°, in the patients with left lung disease at twenty fifth minute (Z = -2.490, p = 0.013). While mean oxygen saturation was 93,77 in the semi-seated position in bed at 60°, mean oxygen saturation was 95,61 in the right side position at 45°, in the patients with bilateral lung disease at twenty fifth minute (Z = -3.643, p = 0.000). While mean oxygen saturation was 95.95 in the left side position at 45°, mean oxygen saturation was 94.10 in the right side position at 45° in the patients with right lung disease at fortieth minute (Z = -2.551, p = 0.011). While mean oxygen saturation was 94.76 in the left side position at 45°, mean oxygen saturation was 96.42 in the right side position at 45° in the patients with left lung disease at fortieth minute (Z = -2.169, p = 0.030). While mean oxygen saturation was 94,01 in the semi-seated position in bed at 60°, mean oxygen saturation was 95,54 in the right side position at 45° in the patients with bilateral lung disease at fortieth minute (Z = -2.137, p = 0.033). Conclusions It was conclude that putting to bed the patients who are unilateral and bilateral lung disease in different positions is changing the oxygen saturation and positioning the patients in 45° left lateral position is the most effective position terms of oxygenation. But putting to bed the patients in different positions does not alters the physiological parameters in patients with unlateral and bilateral lung disease.
