Investigation of the relationship between the anxiety and fear levels of catching COVID-19 of Turkey taekwondo poomsea and paralympic national team athletes

The "Covid-19" epidemic, which emerged in China and was described as a pandemic by spreading all over the world in a short time, was seen in our country as well as in the whole world and caused anxiety and fears in all segments of society. Various measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic, and this has led to an increase in social concerns and fear. In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between anxiety and fear levels of catching covid-19 in Turkey taekwondo poomsea and paralympic national team athletes. While the population of the research consists of taekwondo poomsea and paralympic national team athletes between the ages of 15-65 in Turkey, the sample consists of a total of 100 athletes, 75 poomsea national team athletes and 25 paralympic national team athletes, who were selected by simple sampling method and participated in the research voluntarily. Personal information form in order to determine demographic characteristics, The New Type of Coronavirus (Covid-19) Anxiety Scale and The Fear of Covid-19 Scalewas applied to taekwondo athletes. The data obtained from the data collection tools were evaluated by transferring them to the SPSS package program. In the statistical analysis of the data, descriptive values are indicated by number, percentage, arithmetic mean, and standard deviation. Pearson chi-square test for categorical variables, T test and independet sample test for continuous variables were used in the comparison between groups. Pearson and Sperman correlation tests were used for correlation analysis. In the study, it was determined that 56.0% of poomsea national team athletes stated that they did not see themselves in the risky group during the pandemic process, while 56% of the paralympic national team athletes considered themselves in the risky group during the pandemic process; the anxiety of catching covid 19 of both poomsea and paralympic national team athletes is above the average; Similarly, it was determined that the mean of the fear of Covid-19 score of the athletes in both groups was moderate, and the mean scores of anxiety and fear of these two groups did not differ statistically significantly. As a result; Covid-19 has caused a state of fear and anxiety in takewondo athletes as well as in the whole society; It can be said that the levels of fear and anxiety cause the emergence of some negative situations both in the sports life and in the daily lives of the athletes.
