The effects on current account balance of tourism revenues in Turkey: 2000-2015 period a research on knowledge

Tourism, which is one of the leading sectors in both the world and Turkey, continues to be an important item due to the contributions it provides to the economy. Tourism revenues, which are in the balance of services on the basis of current accounts, make a significant contribution to reducing the current account deficit, one of Turkey's most important economic problems. Tourism is also an effective tool in overcoming the foreign exchange bottleneck that emerging countries face. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of tourism revenues on current account balance between 2000-2015. In addition, the impact of tourism revenues on the current account balance has been analyzed and the share of tourism revenues contributed to the economy as well as the share of foreign trade deficit and current deficit have been researched. In this context, the relationship between tourism revenues and current account balance in Turkey is analyzed by Tado Yamamato and Hacher-Hatemi-J causality method using quarterly data covering the period 2000-2015. The analyzes were performed using Eviews 6.0 and Gauss 9.0 package programs. The ADF unit root test was applied to test the stability of the series. As a result of the research, the existence of bidirectional causality relation between tourism income and current account balance variables was determined.
