Perception of judicial ethics and principles of judicial ethics citizens in Turkey

The purpose of this study is to examine the principles of judicial ethics in Türkiye and the perception of citizens on judicial ethics. The research was carried out in accordance with the relational screening model. The sample of the research consisted of 632 citizens residing in Konya's Selçuklu, Meram and Karatay districts in 2022. The data of the research were collected with a questionnaire consisting of 21 questions and evaluated using the SPSS 23 package program. As a result of the research, it was determined that the participants had "quite negative" thoughts about the judicial system in Türkiye. 60.2% of the participants describe the courts as a place where the strong speak out and 53.5% as a place where the victims/the weak are not protected. 57.4% of the participants think that the trial process is not fast and 45.6% think that justice is not served. Again, nearly two-thirds of the respondents think that the existing laws do not prevent crime, and three-quarters think that a judicial reform is needed. In addition, the satisfaction level of the participants was approximately 50%. Satisfaction is ranked from highest to lowest as privacy, respect for human dignity and equality, professional competitiveness, trust in the judiciary, impartiality, honesty and consistency, merit and attentiveness and independence in the profession. In addition, participants' evaluations of judicial principles and judicial ethics did not differ significantly according to gender, income and the county they resided in (p>0.05), but differed significantly according to age, marital status, educational status and political opinion (p<0.05). Finally, it has been determined that a positive development in one of the sub-components of judicial principles and judicial ethics is reflected in the others as a positive development with at least a moderately significant relationship.
