Abstract (EN)
In this thesis we examined the media language in view of its lexical properties on the basis of a 250.000 words News Text Corpus (NTC) compiled with texts chosen from Akşam, Habertürk, Hürriyet, Milliyet, Sabah and Zaman. The NTC has five sub-corpora divided into politics, magazine, daily news, third page and sports news domains. The computer software program AntConc 3.2.4 was used for data extraction. There are four main sections in this thesis. The first sections deals with type/token ration issues, the second with word frequencies, the third with neologism, and the last with multi-word units. Since the thesis also has a variationist perspective we compared all four sub-corpora to determine the distinctive lexical features of each domain.
